November brings the start of the holiday season. Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and many other events are happening along the way. Here are a couple of fun and educational fall activities to put down on your November planner.

Daylight Saving Time

Don’t forget, in November, we “fall back” and reset our clocks one hour for Daylight Saving Time. The semiannual time change in the fall means an extra hour of sleep for young students. It happens on the first Sunday of November, and we switch the clocks back in March when we “spring ahead.”

Visit a Local Museum

There is no better way to learn about your community than visiting a local museum. Find out what makes your community special or who the most influential people were. Can’t make it out to visit a museum? There are plenty of virtual museum options, so you can still get the museum experience while learning online.

Veterans Day

November 11 is Veterans Day in the United States. Known as Remembrance Day worldwide, it’s a day that first marked the end of World War I. Now, it’s a day set aside to honor US military veterans who have served to protect our country. Veterans Day is an opportunity for students to learn about history and to say thank you to those who served in the Armed Forces to protect the United States.

World Cup Begins in Qatar

The eyes of the sports world will fall upon Qatar as the FIFA Men’s World Cup begins toward the end of November. What a great way to learn more about the different countries around the world participating. You can even use the event to talk about your family’s heritage. Get creative by doing some activities that revolve around soccer. It’s also an excellent time to take a look at your child’s lifestyle and how they can learn from the pros on the field about making healthy choices.

Thanksgiving

November ends with families and friends gathering to celebrate Thanksgiving. As you come together with your family, why not start a new Thanksgiving tradition? The holiday is also a great time to introduce kids to the kitchen. Let them handle one of your side dishes by following a recipe and learning about the importance of math and measurements when it comes to cooking.

Give Back to Your Community

There are several easy ways to help give back to your community. The holidays are when many people are looking to support a charity or give to those in need. Around Thanksgiving, there are always run or walk charity events to help those with food insecurities.
