Past Winners’ Experience

Ilyannie G. from Washington Virtual Academy shares what it was like to be the 1st place 3rd-5th grade National champion of both the 2021 and 2022 National Spelling Bees:

“Winning really meant a lot to me because I worked really hard to study all of the words and learn new ones…. It really paid off in the end especially since I had the support of my family and the entire WAVA community!”

Another finalist, Alena, from the 2022 National Spelling Bee said,

“My favorite part was to take the prize from the CEO, and also making new friends at the Spelling Bee.”

Alena’s advice to this year’s participants is:

“Hardwork never fails. If you want to achieve success, always give your best… Success always rewards us. My teachers, principal, and family supported me through this success… Success is continued hard work without giving up.”
