Kids' Art: Who's Your Hero? - Learning Liftoff

Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork.”

Giving students a fun way to explore their creative side and an opportunity to be recognized for their talents is the goal of online curriculum provider K12‘s annual Art Competition.

Last year, students were challenged to show how the Olympics has inspired creative expressions in their life. Some showed their expressions with pencils, some with chisels, some with oils, some with pixels. Students from around the world rose to the occasion and sent in amazing and inspirational examples of their Olympic-inspired creativity.

This year’s theme is Heroes. What do you think of when someone says “Heroes”? Do you think of the doctors who are working to find a cure for cancer? Your aunt or uncle who are soldiers overseas? The service dog who helps a visually impaired neighbor? Or maybe you think of superhero comic book characters like Superman or Spiderman. We want to see heroes through your eyes. Send us your portrait, still life, action scene, space fantasy—whatever you’re inspired to create, as long as it’s original!

Here are some important details to know about K12’s 9th annual K12 Art Competition:

It’s open to all students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
A finalist will be chosen for each grade, and will receive a canvas of their submitted artwork, a plaque of recognition, and a sketch book.
A Best in Show winner will be chosen in addition to the grade level winners, and will receive a canvas of their submitted artwork, a trophy, and a sketch book.
Each and every student who submits their creative expression of innovation will receive a certificate of participation.
All finalists’ work will be featured in an online gallery.
All submissions must be received by 5 PM EST Friday, October 31st by going here.
